Columbia Association’s (CA) Youth and Teen Center and its Teen Outreach Committee will be distributing donated clothes, shoes and accessories to community members in need on the weekend of Jan. 19-20.

The donations, provided through the committee’s fourth annual clothing drive, will be available to community members in need on Saturday, Jan. 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Sunday, Jan. 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Both distribution days will be held at The Barn, located at 5853 Robert Oliver Place in the Oakland Mills Village Center.

Those attending the distribution days will only need to provide their name and the size of their family. They will then be able to take what they need. Donations range from items for seniors all the way down to clothing for babies. In addition, coffee and pastries have been donated by Eggspectation, water has been donated by Walmart, and bags for the clothes have been donated by Harris Teeter.

The Youth and Teen Center (YTC) at The Barn is a fun, safe way for teens and pre-teens to socialize and participate in recreational and educational programs. Columbia and Howard County kids ages 9 to 18 are welcomed year round with after-school, summer time and some weekend activities and programs that are designed to promote self-esteem and to develop life skills.

A New Name For a Fun Place: Youth and Teen Center at The Barn

A popular Columbia Association-sponsored (CA) gathering spot for youth and teens has a new name: the Youth and Teen Center (YTC) at The Barn, or, simply put, YTC @ The Barn.

The YTC, known previously as the Columbia Teen Center, is located at 5853 Robert Oliver Place in Oakland Mills.

“The new name better acknowledges the full range of ages — youth ages 9 to 18 — served through our facility and programs,” said Rene Buckmon, manager of youth and teen programs for CA. “It also reflects the new and exciting programs and activities that will be offered.”

An open house celebrating the new name will be held on Monday, September 24, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Hanging out at the YTC is a fun, safe way for teens and preteens to socialize and participate in recreational and educational programs. Columbia and Howard County kids ages 9 to 18 are welcomed year-round with after-school, summertime and some weekend activities and programs that are designed to promote self-esteem and to develop life skills.

YTC @ The Barn is a multi-purpose, two-story facility where teens can access a computer lab, watch movies or play Nintendo Wii on a 55-inch screen TV or enjoy billiard tables, Foosball, air hockey, table tennis and various board games in the recreation room. The upstairs section features a mini-gym for basketball, volleyball and other games and activities, as well as a snack bar run by the entrepreneurial program.

A registration form is available at this link. For more information, visit the YTC website at bit.ly/CA-YTC.
