Columbia Association President Phil Nelson Leaving

After five years, Phil Nelson will be leaving CA, effective April 30, 2014. He has served CA well, bringing a focus on planning, both near term and long. During Phil’s tenure, CA has accomplished a number of important things, including the production of the aquatics, bike/pathway, and Inner Arbor plans; the replacement of the Hobbit’s Glen Golf Club Clubhouse; and creation of Haven on the Lake and Inspire Columbia web site.

The CA Board thanks Phil for his work as President.

The CA Board has begun a search for Phil’s replacement and has retained the Executive Search firm of DHR, Inc. to assist in this endeavor, which we anticipate completing by April 30, 2014.

Excite Columbia Returns in February

DSC_0950

After a successful debut last fall, Columbia Association’s (CA) citizens academy, Excite Columbia, is back! The six-week program will be held on Tuesdays, beginning on Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at CA Headquarters located at 10221 Wincopin Circle. The academy will conclude on March 25.

Excite Columbia, a product of CA’s Communications and Community Engagement team, was started to give the community an opportunity to learn how CA operates as an organization. Topics covered include a breakdown of what CA’s departments are in charge of; how CA’s annual charge is calculated and used each year; how the CA Board of Directors runs its meetings; Columbia’s open space; CA’s sports, fitness and health offerings; and its focuses on responsible watershed and energy management.

“Excite Columbia is an interactive program that aims to inform residents about how Columbia Association operates. The program provides residents with an opportunity to learn how CA serves them and is a great way for future community leaders to get involved,” said Celeste Olinger, CA’s director of Communications and Community Engagement.

“Residents are critical to planning for the future of a community. Education is a tool to generate empowered community leaders, and it is our hope that these sessions will be a catalyst to build cooperative partnerships between our residents and Columbia Association,” said CA President Phil Nelson.

Excite Columbia is open to anyone 18 or older interested in learning more about CA. Registration for the program is required as there is limited seating.

For more information about Excite Columbia, call Keithan Samuels at 410-423-4112, or to register online, visit ExciteColumbia.Eventbrite.com.
