Train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai with CA

It’s been 20 years since the first UFC show. In the years since, mixed martial arts, or MMA, has become increasingly popular — and some fans don’t just watch, but train as well.

Columbia Association (CA) offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai kickboxing classes taught by CA personal trainer Alvin Chan, who is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belt and is a former member of the World Kickboxing Association’s U.S. Thai Boxing team.

The classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Supreme Sports Club Youth Arena, located at 7080 Deepage Drive in east Columbia.

Classes are for all levels; no prior experience is required. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes go from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and Muay Thai runs from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. Classes are open to anyone 14 and up. Waivers for those 13 and younger will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The cost for unlimited MMA classes is $125 a month for CA members and $150 a month for non-members. A special introductory price of $99 is available for first-time registrants. Included in that price is a plain white Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gi — these classes train with a gi on Mondays and without a gi on Wednesdays. Regular gym attire is allowed at the Muay Thai classes. Groin protection is highly recommended for Muay Thai students.

  1. Looks like a great place to learn BJJ, I will be taking note of them :). Great price for unlimited classes, too. Does that mean I can show up anytime and join in on a class, like every day if I wanted to?

    Thanks for the info 🙂
