Brian Dunn of Kings Contrivance and Nancy McCord of Wilde Lake are the newest members of Columbia Association’s (CA) Board of Directors; they are joined by Russell Swatek of Long Reach, who served on the board in the past and recently returned after winning his seat in his village’s elections.
Dunn previously served as a village board member in Kings Contrivance. He was elected in April to a two-year term on the CA board.
“I love this place, and I want to play a part in ensuring its future success,” Dunn said. “The decisions made by the CA Board affect everyone living here. It behooves community members to pay attention and to let us know how they feel, good or bad.”
McCord has served on the village boards in Hickory Ridge and Wilde Lake. She has been elected to a one-year term on the CA board.
“This is our community. Many of us moved here because of the ideas of inclusiveness and diversity. Our ideals have made this our home,” McCord said. “If we don’t get involved, we miss out on helping make this the best place it can be. We have a responsibility to our children and grandchildren to get involved.”
Swatek was on the CA board from 2009 to 2011. He has been elected to a two-year term on the CA board.
“I favor a strong interconnected community,” Swatek said. “I think that creating an environment that promotes residents’ sense of inclusion and respect is far more important in the long run than whether we get a new amenity today.”
Dunn, McCord and Swatek join board members Tom Coale (Dorsey’s Search), Michael Cornell (River Hill), Cynthia Coyle (Harper’s Choice), Alex Hekimian (Oakland Mills), Gregg Schwind (Hickory Ridge), Andrew Stack (Owen Brown) and Suzanne Waller (Town Center).
Stack was selected to be the board’s chairman at the board’s May 9 meeting. Schwind is vice chairman.
