Columbia Association (CA) is excited to announced that it will be hosting the seventh annual Dog Day Afternoon on Saturday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Hopewell Park, located at 9200 Rustling Leaf in Columbia. CA invites local canines — and their people — to an afternoon of contests, treats, activities and lots of tail-wagging fun.

Last year’s event brought more than 700 people and more than 200 dogs. This year, dog lovers can enter their four-legged friends into the Tail-Wagging Contest; Bone-Eating Contest; Columbia’s Cutest Canine Contest; and much more. Additional entertainment may include raffles, music, face painting, caricature artists and an arts and crafts station sponsored by Columbia Art Center. This free event also will feature local businesses and organizations that focus on the health, happiness and general well-being of our beloved furry friends.

A rain date has been set for Sunday, April 28. More information on the event is forthcoming. You can register online at dogday2013.eventbrite.com.

CA is now accepting applications from local pet vendors and non-profit organizations that benefit dogs. Interested persons should call 410-423-1891, email Erin.McPhail@ColumbiaAssociation.org or click here for a vendor application. Vendors who return a completed application by March 1 will receive an early registration discount.

This year’s event is being sponored by A&B’s Pampered Pets, Thankful Paws Pet Food Bank, Tiki’s Playhouse, and The Coventry School for Dogs and Their People.
