Welcome to 2013! January is the time for New Year’s resolutions. And that brings members, new and old, to Columbia Association’s (CA) fitness facilities. Beginning on Jan. 1 (or Jan. 2 for those who partied too hearty on New Year’s Eve), Columbia Athletic Club, Columbia Gym and Supreme Sports Club will be overrun with activity. As a longtime member and semi-long term employee, I have seen it all and will share my experiences with you.
Know that it takes fortitude and determination to venture out in the cold to take a class, meet with a personal trainer, jump in the pool or work out on the elliptical. You will, however, be in good company—lots of it! And know that you can meet people and make lifelong friends by March who you will invite to Christmas Eve dinner next December or have coffee with on the first Saturday of every month.
Classes will likely be filling up quickly in January. If you are a Package Plan Plus member and have to register for your class, be online or on the phone 25 hours before the class is scheduled. (That would be 36 hours before the classif it is at 6 a.m. or earlier). Classes fill quickly and have long waiting lists, particularly the evening classes on Monday-Thursday and morning classes all week. Keep in mind that front desk staff at all of the facilities will work with you to help you get into a class, but that they cannot fit you in once the maximum number of participants is reached.
Please also understand that you need to check in at the front desk for many classes a minimum of 10 minutes prior to the start of the class, or your spot will be released to someone on the waiting list. Plan ahead to make sure you have extra time to find a parking spot or check your kids into KidSpace and still check in as required.
Sounds like a hassle? It can be…but the fitness classes will help you decrease your stress level and give you the energy to do it all again tomorrow!
