Zumbatomic® Fitness Classes for the Kids at CA

I love that there is a Zumba® fitness class for kids, and I love it’s name — Zumbatomic®. The name is dynamic and fun, just like the class. Zumbatomic® teaches kids (and their parents) that fitness can and should be fun, and it allows kids to be active in a noncompetitive way.

Zumbatomic® is one of several ways a kid can move while having fun. It is a 45-minute dance class led by dynamic instructors. Here’s what the Zumbatomic® site has to say about the program: “Zumbatomic® classes are high-energy fitness parties that offer real results. Packed with specially choreographed routines and the latest music, like hip-hop, reggaeton and cumbia, Zumbatomic® classes increase focus and self-confidence, boost metabolism, and improve coordination. More than just a great reason to head to the gym, Zumbatomic® classes make getting fit a fun family experience, too.”

Zumbatomic® is good for all kids of all types, athletic or not. As a mother of unathletic kids, that is key. Everyone should work on being fit, not just those who are gifted athletes.

Movement for little kids is easy. They run everywhere. They are nonstop motion. But as soon as they hit grade school, they are forced to sit all day long, which is not good for them and goes against their need to move. Zumbatomic® is just one of many ways a family can fit fitness into a child’s life.

I visited a Zumbatomic® class last week, and the kids were so excited to start dancing. Most of these kids were regulars. They knew the music and the instructor, Kristina Foster. While the Zumba® site states that it’s for kids 4 to 12 years old, in class there were kids barely out of diapers clapping and bouncing and joining in the fun.

Like other Zumba® fitness classes, instructors receive new music once a month and new music videos every other month, so the classes can and do change over time. It has enough repetition for kids to get it (and kids like doing the same things over and over again), but it should never get old and boring either, as new music is slowly rotated in. Kristina said she changes one to two songs per week and she tries to include kids’ favorites. She said sometimes kids will make special requests, and she’ll incorporate those songs into the program, too.

I left the class smiling and happy. How can you not feel good listening to Latin dance music and watching little kids laugh and giggle and dance, too? What fun!

Zumbatomic® is offered at all three CA fitness facilities. CA has also divided the classes for different age groups. On Mondays at 5:15pm, Supreme Sports Club offers Zumbatomic® to grades K-5. On Fridays, the Athletic Club offers it at 4:45pm for grades K-8. Then on Saturdays, the Columbia Gym offers it at 10am for grades K-8.

Lastly, for those middle schoolers who don’t want to hang out with the little kids, they have a class all to their own. Saturdays at noon, there is a Zumbatomic® class for 6th-8th graders only at Supreme Sports Club. What’s cool about this class is that, at the same time, there is a Zumba® Fitness class for mom and dad just down the hall. The whole family can Zumba®!

Zumbatomic® is free to kids with the Package Plan Plus membership and $8 per class for families with the Package Plan membership.
