Les Mills Classes Available at CA’s Fitness Facilities

When you look at the schedules for the fitness classes with Columbia Association (CA)  you will notice that there are these similarly named classes: BodyPump™, BodyStep™ and BodyVive™. These courses are all from the Les Mills fitness program.

Les Mills is based out of Auckland, New Zealand. They offer courses in 14,000 fitness clubs in 80 countries and their mission is to create a fitter planet, one exercise routine at a time. Currently Les Mills offers 13 fitness classes: Body-Attack™, BodyBalance™, BodyCombat™,  BodyJam™, BodyPump™, BodyStep™, BodyVive™, RPM™, Sh’Bam™, CXWorx™, and their newest series: Grit Cardio, Grit Plyo and Grit Strength. CA offers three of the 13 Les Mills classes: BodyPump™, BodyStep™ and BodyVive™ as I mentioned above.

Les Mills releases new routines with great music quarterly. Instructors usually have a big release event on the first day of the new release. Then they will teach the program as released for one month. After that month instructors might opt to switch out tracks for old favorites.  Sometimes instructors will ask, “thumbs up or thumbs down for switching out this track next week?”  This way, there is always variety. You get to try new things, but get old favorites here and there as well.

Another thing you may notice is that many of the instructors teach one, two or all three of these course offerings from Les Mills at the three CA fitness facilities. Instructors for these classes get extensive training and refresher courses to stay current. They find, and I find too, that these classes work great together, either back to back (and you will see that on the schedule) or on alternating days – working on core stability, aerobic fitness and strength.

    Melissa, excellent review of the Les Mills classes. I have trained in many different Group Fitness venues and I can hands down say Les Mills is the absolute World Class Best! I have been teaching Body Step for over 2 years and Body Pump for 1 1/2 years. Last year, I completed a total lab work up and the results were astounding! My total cholesterol went from 198 to 176. My HDL (good cholesterol) went up and my LDL (lousy cholesterol) went down. This is not changing anything in my diet. These classes work but remember to cross train- do all three Les Mills offerrings for the best results!
