Columbia and Howard County are renowned for their diversity. This past Sunday, Columbia Association (CA) and the Howard County Library System continued to celebrate that diversity with its South Asia Culture Café, part of a continuing series that has also included culture cafés for West Africa, Latin America and East Asia.
“The idea is to share the diversity that we have here in Columbia and Howard County,” Laura Smit, CA’s program manager for international exchange and multicultural programs, said before the event. “We want to foster a greater understanding, appreciation and respect for international cultures, and promote opportunities for residents to develop relationships with those from different backgrounds.”
The free event, held at the library system’s Miller Branch, wasn’t just for those from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, but also for anyone interested in South Asian culture.
