Autumn brings progress for the redevelopment of the Hobbit’s Glen Golf Club Clubhouse and Turnhouse. The design development drawings are on course to be complete by September’s end. Final drawings will render accurate cost estimations for the budget timeline and the permit submission and bidding is expected to be complete by January or February. The actual construction is slated to begin late spring 2013 and the entire construction phase should last about one year.
In the meantime, temporary facilities will provide amenities to members. Don’t let the trailers fool you. We’ll still have some pro shop items and limited food and beverage services available.
The new turnhouse will be about 1,200 square feet with two unisex bathrooms and handicap accessibility. There will be a terraced patio oriented toward the new practice area and the facilities will provide freshly-prepared sandwiches and drinks. CA is pursuing approval from the Howard County Health Department for an exterior grill. Until okayed, golfers will be able to call from the 8th tee to order burgers and other grilled items. The Coho Grill will deliver these items from the turnhouse.
There are also plans for a new starter booth. The old booth will be removed and the new booth will be closer to the driving range, practice green, carts and pro shop. The booth will be a decidedly “minimalist” structure which translates into better personalized service for members. Some examples can be found at South River and Queenstown. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
