Last week, Columbia Association (CA) President Phil Nelson announced a few organizational changes that will help CA meet various current needs and future challenges. These changes are effective immediately.
Chick Rhodehamel, former director of the Community Development and Sustainability Service Bureau, will assume the role of environmental manager, serving as the primary liaison for emergency preparedness, working on legislative platforms and advocacy for environmental legislative proposals, organizing building inspection teams and enhancing CA’s recycling efforts, amongst other duties. He will also be very instrumental in working with Howard County and the state of Maryland concerning stormwater management.
Jane Dembner, current director of community planning, will become chief of the Community Building and Sustainability Bureau. This bureau will continue to be responsible for long-range community planning, watershed management, landscape services, and the construction of capital improvements in Columbia’s open space. With this new role, Dembner will also assume the duties of chief staff liaison to the CA Board’s Planning and Strategy Committee.
