High school students and their parents are encouraged to attend
The Columbia Association (CA) will offer four information sessions this fall for parents and teens about the summer 2012 Sister Cities High School Student International Exchange Program on Wednesday, November 2; Tuesday, November 15; Wednesday, December 7; and Thursday, December 15 from 7 to 8 p.m. at CA Headquarters. Laura Smit, program manager for CA’s International Exchange & Multicultural Programs, will speak and answer questions about the month-long July program, which begins with two weeks of cultural and linguistic immersion in one of Columbia’s sister cities, Cergy-Pontoise, France, or Tres Cantos, Spain, where students will be hosted by the family of a French or Spanish student. After returning to the United States, students will host their French or Spanish counterpart for another two weeks. Throughout the trip there are organized group activities for the participants. The registration fee is $650 for Columbia residents and $790 for non-Columbia residents. Airline tickets may range from $1,100 to $1,500 per participant. Applicants must be high school students residing in Howard County and must have completed high school level two of French or Spanish by the end of the current academic year or have the equivalent language fluency. Applications are due February 17, 2012.
