Talented Teens to Perform in Hopes of Being Named Columbia’s Next Teen Idol

Hear My Voice Teen Day and Teen Idol Competition will be held Sunday, October 9

The ninth annual Hear My Voice Teen Day and Teen Idol Competition will be held Sunday, October 9, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Lake Kittamaqundi in Town Center. This year’s event will be hosted by the teen co-hosts of Spotlight on Howard County Teens segment on CA’s TV show, “Columbia Matters.” Ten finalists will compete for the title of Columbia Teen Idol and the winner will take home a $300 cash prize. The audience will also voice their preference by voting for their favorite performer to win the People’s Choice Award and a $100 Lord & Taylor gift package. Howard County middle and high school students are encouraged to attend the free event and bring their school ID. The school with the most students in attendance will win a free day of mini-golf and batting cages at the Columbia SportsPark.

The competition will be judged by an experienced panel of judges with diverse backgrounds in the entertainment industry. This year’s judges will include: Damon Foreman, musician and instructor at the Damon Foreman Music Academy; Deneitra Hutchinson, co-host of CA’s TV show, “Columbia Matters”; and Alyssa Wenner, 2010 Columbia Teen Idol.

The ten finalists in this year’s competition are: Mea Agazio, Hammond High School; Millan Bhatt, River Hill High School; Hailey Cirovski, River Hill High School; Maiah Colvin, Oakland Mills High School; Nina Farone, Lime Kiln Middle School; Miranda Judd, Wilde Lake High School; Shelby Scott, Folly Quarter Middle School; Alyssa Shouse, home school; Sarah Stephen, Long Reach High School; and Montria Walker, Centennial High School.

In honor of National Bullying Prevention Month, this year’s Hear My Voice Teen Day will focus on bullying. In an effort to keep anti-bullying campaigns and initiatives at the forefront of this widespread and serious problem, the ten Teen Idol Competition finalists will create a petition that addresses their stand against bullying and support of legislation and programs that address bullying. Attendees are asked to sign the petition as well. The event will also include raffles and a performance by teen band Baby Grand.
